Every bride-to-be, especially the savvy do-it-yourself kind, should sign up for every newsletter imaginable. This is not a time to be particularly conscious of email spam. In fact, your motto should be “the more, the merrier”.
A few months ago, I signed up for a new email address that I’ve dedicated solely for wedding planning. This includes using it for every vendor inquiry you can imagine. And at the sage advice of one of my recently married girlfriends, I also use it to receive every email newsletter related to weddings I can find.
Just last week I signed up for notices from Michael’s craft stores. Immediately, I started receiving coupons and sale notifications. A coupon for 40% off items is too sweet to pass up, and a buy one, get one for a $.01 is often an even sweeter deal. If you click on the image above, I’ve linked it to this week’s coupons!

I went to the store on Saturday to see if I could find anything useful to make my engagement party invites with. What we found was a lovely red paper or cardstock (although I think it’s supposed to be used for scrapbooking) priced on sale for 4 sheets for $1 (regularly $.59 per sheet) and a near BOGO sale for packages of pre-cut white cardstock.
Check out the closeup, you can see the nice texture of the paper, love!

These are perfect for my red, white, and silver-themed invites that’s going to end up saving me a few dollars than if I would have purchased all the supplies from Paper Source. As they say, a penny saved is a penny earned! And if I’ve done my math right, I will have saved about $7 dollars with partial paper purchased from Michael’s. It may not sound like a lot but a few dollars here and there can definitely add up.
If there is one experience I’ve learned from all of this, you still have to shop around for the best deals. If Michael’s wasn’t currently offering their paper sale and I had purchased each sheet for $0.59, it would have been more expensive to buy from them over Paper Source. Just because one is a nicer store-front and located in a pretty mall (South Coast Plaza, yeah!) and the other is usually located in a strip mall, doesn’t mean one is more expensive than the other.
You just need to remember to read all of those emails that arrive in your inbox and don’t delete them right away like I used to. :)
Calling all brides-to-be, what budget-saving newsletters are you signed up for? I’ve got Michael’s, JoAnn’s Fabrics, BevMo and Paper Source but would love to hear about more!
