Prep Skin and Stay Shine-Free in Holiday Photos!

It’s that season now where everyone is whipping out their cameras ready to capture the festive holiday scene. While a lot of people know how to work it and embrace the flash, I’m an admittedly camera-shy girl.

As much as I love the flash for color, it is not my friend in these cases. Unless I just freshened up my makeup, shiny skin is inevitable. Although I won’t do an extensive skin prep routine everyday, for occasions when I know there will be lots of clicking and smiling it’s worth it.

Fans of Neutrals will Love Jouer Mink Shimmering Liquid Eyeliner

Going by the immense popularity of a certain neutral eyeshadow palette by Urban Decay, I’d say we beauty lovers have a fondness for pretty, shimmering neutrals. And really, who can blame us? Super flattering without too much work to get the colors blended nicely, the right textures and hues make all eyes sparkle.

Now imagine translating those qualities into a liquid eyeliner. Just like a gorgeous brown eyeshadow, it’d be hard to stop wearing. Well in fact, I have been wearing the Jouer Liquid Shimmer Eyeliner in Mink ($22 US) non-stop, because it’s so pretty!

Nails of the Week: OPI Pepe’s Purple Passion

Like everyone else in the room I like being comfortable, which I achieve through recognizing familiarities. That must have been the first thing OPI was thinking with one of their polishes from the new Muppets Collection for Holiday 2011.

At first, the OPI Nail Lacquer in Pepe’s Purple Passion ($8.50 US) strongly reminded me of Lincoln Park After Dark, one of my go to colors. The deep purple looked great in the bottle, another recognizable vampy shade with its own twist to embrace.

Paper Source Workshop: Holiday Cards – Part 3

We’re finally ready to show you the last holiday card we made at the Paper Source Holiday Cards Workshop I attended with my girlfriend last week.  It’s a really simple, yet impactful, design that incorporated the use of a product I had been personally wanting to try – a sticker making machine!

Here’s what you’ll need to make this card:

  • A6 folded card
  • Smaller flat card in a different color
  • Rounded corner paper punch
  • Inverse round corner paper punch
  • Holiday Expressions Tags (pre-printed)
  • Pre-cut snowflake cards
  • Crushed glass glitter in silver
  • Xyron sticker making machine
  • Adhesive eraser
  • Double-sided tape
  • Foam squares

We started by taking the rounded corner paper punch and rounding the corners of both the folded card and the flat one.  Use double-sided tape to adhere the flat card to the folded one.

Then, we used the inverse paper punch to punch the corners of the holiday expression tag.  Use double-sided tape to adhere the tag to the card and set aside.

Now the fun part, using the sticker making machine!

Run the snowflake through the machine – there’s a handle that you turn and it feeds your paper shape through.  Use it to make a sticker out of any shape!

Once your shape comes out the other side, cut the sheet and peel off the clear side.  What you’re left with is your shape stuck on the white side.

Because I was taking pictures with my camera phone you can’t see the adhesive that might stay stuck to the sheet (are you able to see the little bit that’s around the center of the snowflake?).  Use your adhesive eraser to erase off the excess so you have a clean sticker.  I took this picture after I had most of it cleaned off.

Next, peel the sticker off the sheet, turn it over, and generously sprinkle your glitter onto the sticky side of the snowflake and then dump the excess back into the jar to maximize use.  Flick the back of the snowflake to get any of the glitter that didn’t fully stick off.

On the back side of the snowflake, apply some foam squares to it to create the pop-up effect and give your card dimension.

Mount the snowflake on the folded card and you’re all done!  Another super simple holiday card you can make and send this season.  :)
