There’s no time like New Year’s Eve to flaunt the falsies (more on that tomorrow!), whether they’re loud and luscious or just an accent to your look. Even so, many of my friends prefer a bold mascara to any type of faux lashes and I’m sure some of you feel the same.

When your lashes are competing with sequins and sparkles, you want them to be fierce! Promising both volume and curl, let’s see if the new Rimmel Sexy Curves Full Body Mascara in Black ($7.50 US) will be your mascara pick Saturday night.

This mascara’s red-hot exterior is a winner for a night out, and completely glamorous in any makeup bag. I’ve never tried a curvy brush, but it seems to be precise. Using just the curved portion at the end accentuates bottom lashes perfectly.

Usually my lashes clump and look spidery if I try to layer different mascaras, but with this one they just look bigger and better. I have a hunch it’s the brush. I feel like the shape prevents clumping and helps to extend lashes, but it’s not very dense.

Lasting curl power? Check. As for volume, I didn’t see a lot of thickening since the wand’s bristles aren’t densely packed to coat lashes. The bad news is that this mascara tends to flake underneath my eyes after a few hours.

I’m hoping Rimmel comes out with a waterproof version because I like the lift this mascara creates, but for now I’d suggest using this as a touch up mascara or layering on top of a waterproof mascara since this works so well with other mascaras.
