All Access: Backstage at Tibi A/W ’14

Tibi backstage fall 2014

My favorite moments backstage at New York Fashion Week are watching the talented artists transform the models into an image and persona that represents what the designer wants them to project on the runway.

It’s always interesting to see the connection between the fashion and the beauty. Sometimes, I have to admit I don’t see it very easily, but when it clicks, the effect is a beautiful experience. Continuing with our coverage of NYFW, see the beauty looks at Tibi below!

Build Your Own Custom Bobbi Brown Palette

Have you seen Bobbi Brown’s customizable makeup palettes yet?

Of course I like the idea of tailoring makeup to my own preference but what I like more about Bobbi’s palettes was the fact that I could possibly carry everything I needed to complete a makeup look in one.

And that means more than just eye, cheek and lip colors.  Bobbi Brown takes it one step further and put her Foundation Stick formula into a compact to give us the choice to make a more complete palette.  It’s nice to have foundation and color in one so that I pack less when I travel.  Or at least try  ;)

I’m going to Orange County this weekend and couldn’t wait to try a solid compact since liquids often get tossed out at the airport.  After trying this, I had mixed feelings on the foundation compact; it’s definitely something I need to get used to.

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow: I Just Can’t Get It Right

I am such a lover of Bobbi Brown makeup, especially her gel liners and creamy lip colors.  So I can’t for the life of me figure out how I’m not in love with Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadows.

As a part of Bobbi’s new Platinum Collection she released four new shades of Long-Wear Cream Shadows ($22 US), including Steel, a color I’ve been trying to get work on me for the past few days.

Described as a deep, cool brown, I played around with Steel (my first BB cream shadow) and tried to apply it in a couple of different ways.

Experiment #1: Apply with fingertips.  What I like about cream shadows is the fact that they’re so easy to apply with your fingers (because it’s always more fun to play with your makeup, right? ;) ).   So I dipped my ring finger into my pot of Steel.  The consistency was silky and soft but when I went to apply it onto my lids, the formula didn’t apply smoothly – it was almost like it had dried on my finger before I could work with it.

I picked up a bit more color to see if I just needed to pile on the product, but again, it didn’t smooth onto my lids, or even deposit that much color when I used a dab technique.  I continued to layer and found that I could build the color, albeit slowly.  Most of it appeared to just stay on my finger.

What’s In Your Makeup Bag?

It’s Friday night and I’m just at home chillin’.  I don’t feel much like watching television so I thought I’d play a game of “What’s In My Makeup Bag?” and started snapping pictures in my bedroom.

Here’s what’s in my new MAC Hello Kitty makeup bag:

- Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Eyeshadow Palettes in Storm and Earth
- Bobbi Brown Velvet Plum Eye Palette
- shu uemura Secret Luscious Rose Eye Eye Palette
- Bobbi Brown Gel Liners in Black Ink and Chocolate Shimmer Ink
- MAC Eye Pencil in Coffee
- L’Oreal True Match Concealer in Fair/Light
- shu uemura Eyelash Curler
- Jan Marini Mascara in Black
- MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Blonde
- Prescriptives Lip Liner in Almost Nude
- MAC Hello Kitty Lipstick in Fashion Mews

Okay, now it’s your turn – what’s currently in your makeup bag?  Anything fun?  Anything that’s in there that you actually don’t use but it’s just there?
