How Not To Look Old: Switch to Cream Blushes

blush-beauty-image.jpg

Since I started flipping through the pages of Charla Krupp’s guide on How Not to Look Old, I’ve come across a few fun ideas on simple changes I can make to look younger.

Today’s topic – blush!  To look younger and hipper (or Y+H in Krupp’s lingo), switch from a powder to a cream blush.  That way the color blends more easily into your skin offering a radiant glow from within as opposed to the color sitting on top of your skin.

The only downside to cream blushes is that the formula tends to fade faster than powders so touch-ups throughout the day might be a nuisance.

However if you don’t mind reapplication or generally don’t touch up mid-day anyway (like me), here are swatches of three of my favorite non-powder blushes.  From left to right: NARS Orgasm, MAC Just a Pinch, and Lancôme in Model Mocha.

Warm Up for Summer with Coral Blushes

tdc-coral-blushes_sp09.jpg

Around this time last year, I didn’t think of myself as a coral blush-wearin’ kinda gal.  I owned a lot of pink shades and was perfectly content with my collection.

But something happened this spring, my favorite beauty brands turned out a ton of pretty coral blushes and I couldn’t help but have a change of heart.  Here are a few of my personal picks from recent collections that will transition you from spring to summer flawlessly.

Get Blushed with MAC A Rose Romance

rose-romance-beauty-powder.jpg

MAC A Rose Romance hits counters today and I have a feeling that the blushes from this collection will be all the rage.

MAC collectors will want to take a gander at A Rose Romance beauty powders ($22 US) with a rose-shape embossed into them.  Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a total advocate for beauty powders, I always urge folks to pick one up!

However, in testing the beauty powder in Summer Rose I found that my brush didn’t pick up as much color as blushes normally do.  I wonder if it’s because of the imprint and if that plays a factor.  In order to swatch the shade, I couldn’t use my fingers, I had to use a tissue to wipe some of it from the pan and onto my hand.

Summer Rose (right) is a blue-based violet pink with subtle pearl that reminded me of True Romance at first glance.  It’s definitely pigmented and becomes easy to apply again once that top film is worn or wiped off.

Coming Up Roses: MAC Rose Romantic

mac-rose-romance-promo-image.jpg

A rose by any other name smell as sweet?  If that name is MAC, it just might.

For summer, MAC introduces Rose Romantic, a color collection filled with rose-hued lipsticks, soft pink and purple shadows and two beauty powders with a pretty rose carved into it.  Absolutely gorgeous.

More than anything, I’m really dying to see the beauty powders.  They are one of my favorite MAC products ever and if I had to pass on everything else just for them, I surely would.
