NYX Cosmetics: Drugstore Gems Worthy of Being Unearthed

Beauty doesn’t have to be expensive. I love hunting for the latest, amazing drugstore finds. After all, there are some “gems” to be unearthed!

I recently bought some NYX items to try out. They have an amazing reputation and are constantly compared to MAC. Lots of people rave about their products saying that they’re almost as good, if not equal to those of MAC. Was everyone just exaggerating or were they right? I was eager to find out!

First, I tried NYX Doll Eye Mascara ($8 US) in Volume Extreme Black. The brush shape is curvy, but thin in size. I found the formula to be a little too thick making it clump a bit after 2 coats, but I love the pitch black color.

Makeup Stays Put with YSL Fard Lumière Aquarésistant for Summer 2009

You ever wonder how models and actresses keep their makeup on during beachy photo shoots or coming out of the pool like Denise Richards in that scene of Wild Things?

Four words: water-resistant eye shadow!

A couple of days ago I was perusing the beauty counters at Saks Fifth Avenue in downtown San Francisco and came across the YSL Summer 2009 Makeup Collection is inspired by the exoticism of Africa with warm and radiant contrasting colors.

While I liked the pretty 5-colour palettes ($62 US), especialy the blues used to create the model’s look, I was even more intrigued with Fard Lumière Aquarésistant Water Resistant Cream Eyeshadow ($28.50 US).

Coming Up Roses: MAC Rose Romantic

A rose by any other name smell as sweet? If that name is MAC, it just might.

For summer, MAC introduces Rose Romantic, a color collection filled with rose-hued lipsticks, soft pink and purple shadows and two beauty powders with a pretty rose carved into it. Absolutely gorgeous.

More than anything, I’m really dying to see the beauty powders. They are one of my favorite MAC products ever and if I had to pass on everything else just for them, I surely would.

Every time I’m at Target I do a quick scan of the beauty aisles to see if I can spot any new drugstore goodies or sales to gush over.

Soak in the Heat with CHANEL Côte d’Azur

It was so warm in San Francisco today, I could have sworn it was a 90 degree day in Orange County in the middle of July.

With no beach in sight (correction, there’s Ocean Beach just down the road but I don’t really consider it a sunbathing destination as the Bay Area waters are super cold), I made it a lazy makeup day and played around with CHANEL’s Côte d’Azur summer color collection hoping to transport my mind to the Mediterranean sun and sand destinations.

This season, CHANEL released a warm and rich eyeshadow quad in Plein Soleil ($56 US) with pretty coppers, bronzes and sandy gold/pinks. I was really feelin’ the copper shade with tons of shimmer (top left) so I based my makeup look around that.
