I hope everyone’s celebrating an awesome Fourth of July weekend. Hopefully you’re planning on hitting up the sales, eating some tasty BBQ, and enjoying the sun. Anyways, before you out and have fun I wanted to share an eye look that I created with the Lorac Hot Off the Red Carpet Collection which I reviewed here.

I used all four eye shadow shades and really like the combination. It feels like a really appropriate look for the nice weather we’ve been having. I’m also wearing the Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Eyeliner in Brown and the Maybelline the Falsies Mascara.

Something my mother taught me amongst many other things: never wear heavy foundations in the dog days of summer. It’s like a recipe for complexion disaster. But what’s a girl to do when she wants a polished, even skin tone?

Tinted moisturizers will save the day! At times like these your pores will be thanking you for choosing more hydrating, light coverage with SPF. Besides, who has time to think about face makeup when there’s so many fun products to play with like shimmery bronzers and coral nail polishes?

My pick for the season is definitely the Clinique Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer ($24.50 US). The reasons I like it the most is that it’s affordable, feels invisible on the skin, and works without breaking me out in 80 degrees weather.

SPF also plays a good role in why this Tinted Moisturizers stands out. I know I’ll be pulling out the higher SPFs this Summer which is why it’s reassuring to know that even my makeup has a mild dose of sun protection.

The shade I bought was 03 which I’d describe as a warm creamy beige. It works for my skin tone now, but I’m thinking about picking up 04 to mix with 03 as I start getting darker. With six shades available, you should be able to find a good match too.

In my swatch I photographed 03 unblended on the left and mostly blended on the right. Though the Clinique Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer is on the sheerer side, the great thing about tinted moisturizers is the ability to layer for custom coverage.

In the photo I’m wearing the Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer, concealer, and powder. While it does even out my skin tone perfectly, I still need some concealer to cover blemishes and powder to mattify and set the product.

Nonetheless I use way less concealer and powder after applying this Tinted Moisturizer so for me it’s going to be a summer makeup bag essential. Overall I really like the glowy, even look I’m able to achieve with this and the comfortable 8 hours wear.

I do believe that the point where fashion and beauty meet can be found right here on the Tarte NeutralEYES Natural Eye Palette ($44 US). The case is so stylish that I’ve had a friend confuse it for a trendy clutch.

But of course it’s what’s inside that matters. Will Tarte’s latest eco-friendly eye shadow palette become go-to colors? Do they offer smooth blendable texture with medium pigmentation like we’ve come to expect from the brand?

Nicely mirrored and refillable, Tarte’s seasonal palettes always have outstanding value. They’ve also included a full-sized Aqua Gel Eyeliner in Brown and soft double-ended brush with the NeutralEYES Palette.

The Aqua-Gel Eyeliner is beautifully creamy, pigmented, and completely budge proof. However the pencil breaks very easily since it is so soft.

Tarte has named the colors as: Matte Bone, Matte Taupe, Matte Olive Green, Shimmering Bronze, Matte Deep Teal, Matte Soft Pink, Shimmering Soft Peach, Matte Brown, Matte Plum, and Matte Navy. The eyeliner is chocolate brown.

Mattes are always difficult to handle. Tarte usually does a good job making them smooth though these are a little chalkier than others I’ve tried. Pigmentation is pretty well-done but what I found myself appreciating most is the ability to sheer out the colors with careful blending.

The eye shadow colors I used in my look are Shimmering Bronze, Matte Brown, Shimmering Soft Peach, Matte Navy and Matte Plum. I also applied black eyeliner in the waterline and lengthening mascara to intensify the look.

I like a really strong eye look, but it might work better during the night for you if this isn’t your thing. Or tone it down by simply lining the waterline thinly with a brown eyeliner instead of applying dark eye shadows to the lower lash line.

On my lips I am wearing the Tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Luster in Adored ($24 US). I’ve also applied the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Blushing Bride ($25 US) on my cheeks. Click on the links to see their respective reviews.

For as long as I can remember, my hair has never been very good at holding curls.  It didn’t matter what curling iron or set of hot rollers I had, it always seemed that those curls would loosen out after just a couple of hours, leaving me with a kinky head of hair that looked like a hot mess.

After I read Jeannie’s review on the new Remington T-Studio Pearl Ceramic Heated Clip Setters ($44.99 US), I really wanted to try it out.  For some reason I just had an inkling that this set would make a difference on me.  Check out before and after photos here:

Remington T-Studio Pearl Ceramic Heated Clip Setters come in a set of 20 rollers, 12 in the large size and 8 small ones.  Since I don’t have a lot of hair, this is more than enough to curl my entire mane.

I don’t have a method to how I like to curl, although I might experiment with rolling out versus in.  I also don’t leave the curlers in the front sections of my hair for too long since I don’t want it to be too curly around my face.

Remington T-Studio Pearl Ceramic Heated Clip Setters heat up quickly, the directions state only 90 seconds, but I leave them in for a little bit longer before I start, about 2-3 minutes.

The velvet-lined rollers are a little bit warm to the touch, even though I hold them at the ends.  Make sure to take them off the heat base for a few seconds before handling.

Because my hair is so fine and doesn’t hold curls well, I leave in my rollers for a good 10-15 minutes before taking them out.  I think this really helped to keep the curls in place for most of the day.

Another trick to keeping  longer-lasting locks is not playing with your hair too much throughout the day; the oils in your hands can weight things down.

Using my Remington T-Studio Pearl Ceramic Heated Clip Setters are so easy, I’ve been using them at least once a week to switch up my hair style.  It also makes for a festive holiday look when I place sparkly barrettes or pins in my mane.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! What are your plans today? I know I’ll be indulging in some mouthwatering food and pulling out the old karaoke later on, much to the dismay of my family.

I’m also going to bust out my best makeup techniques and get the creative juices flowing for the family gathering. It’s the best time of the year to refine mediocre blending skills or try my hand at a crazy runway trend!

The challenge this Thanksgiving was to use the very gorgeous Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Loose Colour in Flicker ($11.50 US) which I just uncovered and never got around to wearing.

The loose powder can be kind of messy if you’re in a rush, but I had plenty of time today so I could admire all the pretty shimmer. It’s the perfect peachy-orange, melon color for celebrating the end of autumn with a final “hurrah!”, don’t you think?

As always I began with the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion ($18 US) then patted the MAC Pigment in Copper Sparkle ($19.50 US) over the outer two-thirds of the lid moving slightly above the crease.

Afterwards, I dabbed Flicker onto the inner third and swept the remaining amount on the flat shading brush into the crease and worked the color out.

Using Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil in Whiskey ($17 US), I lined the waterline. Then I took El Dorado to skim along the lower lash line and into the inner tear ducts as an eye-brightener. The creamy texture was so much more convenient than a regular gold eye shadow!

To finish off the eyes, I coated my lashes with the Tarte Lights Camera Lashes! Mascara ($19 US) for fullness without clumps.

To bring out the beautiful pink tones in Flicker, I brushed Benefit’s Coralista ($28 US) onto my cheeks and picked up a tiny amount of Flicker to highlight the very tops of my cheekbones.

The lips were just a swipe of simple pink, golden sparkle gloss, my favorite MAC Dazzleglass in Smile ($18 US).
