I can’t tell you how picky I am when it comes to foundation. When it’s labeled a tinted moisturizers I’ll try anything, but for some reason I feel like the word “foundation” can be a warning sign: Use cautiously to prevent a heavy, mask-like complexion.

It can be a daunting task to pick the right one. Especially since I usually only reach for foundations on a bad skin day, meaning I need one with natural, medium-full coverage. The last thing I need is to accent redness or a break-out with cakey, thick makeup.

Of course this is where the Flawless Face expert Laura Mercier enters the story. The new Laura Mercier Oil Free Supreme Foundation ($42 US) is the perfect fit for my needs and something I’ve been obsessively using for the past month. I’m thinking it might have become somewhat of a necessity in my foundation wardrobe.

The biggest draw for me has to be the finish, a soft matte that seems to blur out pores and provides even, full coverage. I wouldn’t say this foundation feels exactly weightless like some, which usually have lighter coverage, but it lasts eights hours like promised.

There are 12 shades in the line. I have Sunny Beige, a creamy yellow-toned beige that melts seamlessly into my NC-30/NC-35 complexion. Laura Mercier says to apply this with fingers or a sponge after shaking the bottle. I like using my fingers.

The Oil Free Supreme Foundation doesn’t keep me shine-free all eight hours, so a mid-day powder touch-up is needed. However, that’s only in my t-zone where my combination oily skin gets the shiniest. For areas like my cheeks, it endures beautifully and makes anything I wear like blushes or bronzers stay strong too.

One of my girlfriends is absolutely particular about skin. She takes good care of hers but also notices other’s. In fact, she’s even coined a term that I’ve picked up. “Good skin day,” meaning someone who’s skin looks especially nice on any given day.

It’d be wonderful to have a good skin day everyday, but I guess their random and rare nature is what makes them so special. I know I feel more confident when my skin looks its best, which is why I love trying new base makeup.

Laura Mercier’s flawless face products are award winning and highly praised why is why I was so excited to review them. I’ve only tried her Mineral Pressed Powder SPF 15 before, which I enjoyed and repurchased so I had high hopes.

Priming the skin with the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Oil Free ($30 US) is the first step to creating a smooth canvas for makeup. I like the gel consistency which seems to absorb oil better than other primers I’ve used and evens out the surface of the skin.

I experienced no break outs or irritation while using this and actually find the primer quite moisturizing though I wear a separate moisturizer underneath. More importantly my makeup stayed put throughout the day. I think the Foundation Primer Oil Free even extended its wear, keeping me from blotting until later in the afternoon.

A cult favorite in the beauty world, the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 Oil Free in Sand ($42 US) is geared towards oily or acne-prone skin types and provides sheer buildable coverage. I was pleasantly surprised by how much coverage this product had. My skin felt comfortable and moisturized yet it was beautifully evened out.

Sand, a warm beige shade, was too dark for me I will be designating it for my Summer wardrobe. The color looks very orange due to oxidation in my swatch on the left, but keep in mind that it melds once blended though I would be very careful getting color matched. Note that this tinted moisturizer adds a healthy glow to the face without looking dewy.

Concealing is probably the most important step to me. The Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage in SC-3 ($28 US) is great because it offers two shades in one palette to customize your exact match. The shade on top is a little lighter than my skin tone and the one on the bottom matches exactly.

I recommend using a brush with this concealer because its texture is on the harder side in the compact. However it provides a blended, creamy coverage once applied to the face. I primarily use this for blemishes since the opacity covers beautifully but I could imagine one using this under the eyes since it looks so natural on skin.

I can’t begin to tell you how much I adore this simple yet effective beauty. The Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder in Universal ($34 US) absorbs shine, gives a soft-focus effect after foundation, and smoothes skin. It is hands down the best setting powder I’ve used, keeping my makeup fresh-looking longer.

There is no powdery or whitish look after application either, only softened lines and a diffused finish. I also appreciate the thoughtful packaging which features a lock mechanism so you don’t open the jar each time to a flurry of powder.
