All Access: Backstage at Vivienne Tam A/W ’14

vivienne tam backstage fall 2014

Being alone in a big city can be an intimidating experience, but personally I enjoy having the freedom not to have to compromise on my schedule. Walking around NYC and taking the subway or buses was a great experience to do alone for the first time this Fashion Week.

By now, I am much more comfortable recognizing and visualizing where certain places, like Midtown or Soho are. Of course, with covering trends backstage at New York Fashion Week, I knew my way around Columbus Circle and Lincoln Park pretty well. Moving on, check out what beauty trends are upcoming at Vivienne Tam.

Lip Lust: MAC Freckletone Lipstick

MAC Freckletone Lipstick review

We all have our phases and trend-based preferences when it comes to beauty. Currently I?m riding the dramatic eye makeup wave. I?ve been sporting falsies frequently and winging my eyeliner intensely.

I find it a little too much to pair my eye makeup with a bold lip color, though who knows, I may end up liking the juxtaposition next week. But for now, a nude lip color looks good to me.

How Not To Look Old: Switch to Cream Blushes

Since I started flipping through the pages of Charla Krupp’s guide on How Not to Look Old, I’ve come across a few fun ideas on simple changes I can make to look younger.

Today’s topic – blush!  To look younger and hipper (or Y+H in Krupp’s lingo), switch from a powder to a cream blush.  That way the color blends more easily into your skin offering a radiant glow from within as opposed to the color sitting on top of your skin.

The only downside to cream blushes is that the formula tends to fade faster than powders so touch-ups throughout the day might be a nuisance.

However if you don’t mind reapplication or generally don’t touch up mid-day anyway (like me), here are swatches of three of my favorite non-powder blushes.  From left to right: NARS Orgasm, MAC Just a Pinch, and Lancôme in Model Mocha.

Photoshop Your Lips with MAC See Thru Lip Colour

“It’s like Photoshop for your lips!”

This immediately came to mind when I first applied MAC See Thru Lip Colour in Secret Crush on my lips today.

Released with MAC’s A Rose Romance collection today, See Thru Lip Colours ($14 US) are light-weight gel lip stains that deposits sheer color to your pout for that “just kissed” effect.

See Thru Lip Colours are available in three shades -

Tender Tryst (left): a sheer plum with slight pearl
Secret Crush (right): a sheer red berry
Loving Touch (not shown): a sheer light pink with pearl

What I like about these gel lip stains is the packaging, hands down.  It’s like a mini lip glass that fits practically anywhere and because it’s in a tube it comes with a convenient applicator unlike something like Benefit’s Benetint Lip Balm that comes in a pot you have to stick your finger in (and I hate lip products that come this way).
