A couple of weeks ago, while walking to the nearest subway station in SoHo, I walked past the Origins store on West Broadway.  The sweet and fresh scents wafting from inside lured me into the store.

I made a beeline for my favorites - Peace of Mind On-the-Spot-Relief ($10 US) and Mint Wash ($18.50 US).  Although I already know what they smell like, I had to grab the tester and sniff anyway.  Isn’t it weird that some of our favorite beauty and body products are our favorites because of the way they smell?

As I was breathing in the refreshing scent of the Mint Wash, an Origins associate recommended I try the Ginger Rush ($32.50 US) body cream.  Ginger Rush is the limited edition addition to the immensely popular Ginger collection (Oprah announced the Ginger Soufflé whipped body cream as one of her Favorite Things in 2007).

I’ve been a long-time fan of ginger.  My mom has always used the gold hued root in her Chinese cooking.  The pungent herb is popular for its medical benefits to ease upset stomachs, relieve nausea and help relieve the stuffiness of sinus congestion when ingested.  Although I am not technically eating ginger, applying lots of the beneficial herb-infused moisturizer has got to be good for me somehow, right?

Ginger Rush did not disappoint.  The intensity of the ginger scent is rounded out by a blend of lemon, lime and bergamot essential oils.  I was pleased to find that the cream was thicker and felt more hydrating than its Ginger Soufflé cousin.  This is a perfect compliment to the winter season when my skin is pummeled by blustery winter winds.
