There are many people who like to bake and when they do want to start out with a shopping trip to buy what they need for their next baking adventure. Then there are those who like to bake when the mood strikes them. For these individuals especially they will want a well-stocked baking pantry that includes those items needed for bread making which is a favourite of many.
What You Should Have In Your Home Baking Pantry
You want to start by having one designated area for all your baking goods. This could be just one cupboard, but if you have a pantry then this is even better. It could be large enough to not only stock your baking ingredients but all your baking equipment and tools.
When it comes to ingredients you are going to need:
- A good selection of flour: This should include whole wheat and oat flour. Plus cake flour and bread flour.
- A variety of Oats: Many recipes call for different types of oats with the most common ones being quick oats, rolled oats, and oat bran
- Sugars: You will want a good selection of these such as granulated sugar, confectioner’s sugar for making icing and brown sugar.
- Incidentals. Which are nice to have on hand and include wheat germ, cream of tartar, and cornmeal
- Baking Soda
- Baking Powder
- Dried yeast
- Spices: A good variety is a must as one can substitute with another if necessary.
- Chocolate: cocoa as well as bakers chocolate in sweet, and semi-sweet and dark chocolate
- Tinned Milks: such as coconut, almond and evaporated milk.
- Dried Fruits: These can often substitute for fresh fruit if the recipe calls for it and its not available.
- Pie Fillings and Puddings: Whenever a desert is needed quickly then having these on hand will allow you to whip up something quickly.
Check your favourite recipes and keep a stock of the required ingredients on hand for these.
